100 Years of the Bauhaus

In 2019 the Bauhaus celebrates 100 years since its inception by its founder,
Walter Gropius
in 1919 in Weimar. The Bauhaus was founded upon the idea of  Gesamtkunstwerk or a “total work of art” in which all the arts, including architecture, would eventually be brought together.

The Bauhaus style has become one of the most influential currents in modern design, and to celebrate its centenary I created an adaptable, modular graphic system which can be used to create any form using squares. It uses the recognisable colours of the Bauhaus and incorporates the three school locations and director’s names as well as featuring graphic colours inspired by the work of Josef Albers and his exploration of the interaction of colour.
